万卫星


万卫星(1958年7月1日—2020年5月20日),出生于湖北天门。空间物理学家。2011年当选为中国科学院院士。1992年加入九三学社。

万卫星的家乡湖北天门是我国著名鱼米之乡,民风淳朴,素有爱读书的传统。只可惜他小学、中学正逢“文革”10年,完全没有正常的学习环境。但他从小立下当科学家的志向,利用一些可能的机会汲取知识的营养。课堂上老师讲不到的他就自学,教材上没有的他就阅读课外书籍。老师被他的好学精神所感动,经常开小灶为他辅导功课,给他批改并未布置的作业。功夫不负有心人,1977在“文革”后第一次恢复高考中,他以优异成绩考上武汉大学空间物理系,迎来了人生新起点。

1982年,万卫星毕业后就读和工作于中科院武汉物理所,师从我国著名空间物理学家李钧院士。1989年获博士学位,并留所工作,历任该所助理研究员、副研究员、研究员、研究室主任。他在武汉学习工作期间已经显示出卓越的才能,承担并完成了近20项国家重大重点基础课题和国防工程项目研究,发表了100多篇学术论文;先后获得湖北省科技进步奖一等奖和国家发明奖四等奖,湖北省自然科学奖三等奖、武汉市科技进步奖一等奖和国防科技奖三等奖,获得湖北省有突出贡献中青年专家称号等荣誉;1992年获国务院政府津贴,1995年获得国家杰出青年科学基金资助。此外获得中科院院长奖学金特别奖、中国青年科技奖等,并入选全国“百千万人才工程”1995/1996年度一、二级人选。

2004年起,由于中科院进行学科整合,万卫星带领电离层物理研究室的主要骨干由武汉迁往北京,在中科院地质与地球物理研究所成立地磁与空间物理研究室,并担任研究室主任至今。

万卫星主要从事电离层物理、电离层电波传播、高层大气物理等领域的基础研究,在电离层与大气层的耦合等重大科学问题的研究中取得了重要突破和系列成果。他通过长期观测,发现我国电离层扰动主要有东北、东南两种优势传播方向,进一步分析得出其激发源分别位于青藏高原的东南、东北缘的地形突变处,并推测与青藏高原邻近地区低涡天气事件有密切关系。这一系统性的工作以第一手观测资料揭示出我国电离层扰动的地域特性,并且将电离层扰动与相关气象活动及大尺度地形地貌联系起来,为电离层与其他地球学科的交叉提供了一条创新思路;针对“低纬电离层周期性四波经度结构”这一当今电离层物理中极为前沿的科学问题进行了系列研究,率先在物理成因方面取得了突破,观测模拟并举,深入揭示了其与大气动力过程的紧密联系;利用卫星及全球地基观测资料,揭示并解释了“四波”的日变化特征,系统总结了“四波”的气候学特性,得出了“四波”与大气潮汐DE3模的相关性,从而给出了关于电离层“四波”结构与大气层潮汐关系最有力的直接证据;利用卫星数据及地基观测资料,发现了太阳风磁场通过极区电离层电场的耦合对电离层偶发E层形成的控制,并提出电场随机性在Es形成过程中具有决定作用;将实验观测与基础研究成果应用于工程实际,解决了“921工程”定轨等多项国防重大重点工程中的电离层修正难题;特别是领导承担了“北斗一号”工程中的“电波传播修正子系统”的研制任务,创造性地提出了一种大面积电离层电波传播修正模式,充分利用系统本身的资源,高精度、高可靠性地解决了工程系统的电波修正问题,被誉为是“北斗一号”工程地面应用系统中两个最具有技术创新的系统之一。

万卫星迄今已在国内外学术刊物上发表研究论文260余篇,被引用1300多次;研究成果7次获省 部级以上奖励;主持国家自然科学重点基金项目、“973”项目课题等20余项。
